As of Fall 2023, this form now serves as the intake for both TEAM Lab projects and Fee-for-Service projects. No matter whether you plan to fabricate your parts yourself or want to have an expert do it for you, you're in the right place!
The TEAM Lab (where lab users run the machines under expert guidance) and Instrument Shop (where experts fabricate users’ jobs for a fee) both provide free design/fabrication consultations to students, faculty and staff. This allows individuals to get professional, one-on-one feedback on the feasibility of their design and, if needed, a plan for actually making it in the shop.
If you plan to fabricate a project yourself, we can help choose appropriate material, tooling, machine setup and/or fixturing to complete it. By the time you’ve completed your design consultation, you should have a final design and a manufacturing plan and be ready to work on your project.
If you’re a member of a group intending to fabricate your project yourselves in TEAM Lab, make sure the individual(s) who will actually be operating the machines is present for the consultation!
