Undergraduate Students, Graduate Students, Faculty and Staff are all encouraged to utilize the Makerspace for their research projects.
Get Started: Researchers
All the standard protocol is the same, with the one exception that the Materials Fee is higher.
Paying for Materials
Research PIs often setup a Payment Account so members of their lab can easily purchase items or fees that are directly charged to a funding string.
Charging your Materials Fee to your Lab? Let us know when you stop in, and we’ll charge it to your instructor’s account.
Fee For Service Machining + Welding
Most of the Design + Innovation Lab is setup for Do-It-Yourself efforts. In other words, we’re here to help you or your students create your own parts. However, we do offer these options where our staff fabricate your parts as a fee-for-service.
If the above options to not meet your needs, then check out the Prototyping Center at UW-Milwaukee (note: they can accept UW funding strings and are friendly to work with!).
There are also many local and online 3D printing and metal work options.
Special Accommodations
We are committed to providing an accessible fabrication experience for all users. Through a collaborative process with faculty, staff, and students, reasonable accommodations are implemented to ensure equal access and opportunity for individuals with disabilities.
If you require special accommodations or have any questions regarding accessibility please contact us at maker-contact@engr.wisc.edu
UW Members Outside of CoE
